The purpose of the African Innovation Challenge Fund (African ICF) is to provide financial support to teams so they can take promising research, funded by DFID, to the next stage of use. START 2009 Call for Pre-Proposals for grants in support of one year of research related to global environmental change in Africa - Note Calls can be related to aquaculture where appropriate.

START promotes regional collaborative research networks to:
• conduct research on regional aspects of environmental change,
• assess impacts and vulnerabilities to such changes, and
• provide information to policy-makers.

START’s activities in Africa are coordinated by the Pan-African Committee for START. The Pan-African START Secretariat is based at the Institute of Resource Assessment at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
